About the Practitioner
I was born in 1965 in the newly independent Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago. My earliest memories are of being bathed in herbs, taking herbal remedies and experiencing many aspects of traditional healing in the house of my maternal grandmother who was a very accomplished traditional healer/bush doctor. As I grew up I came to learn that I am from a family that has produced healers for many many generations. My mother, although choosing not to pursue healing as a vocation, nevertheless also influenced me with her passion for natural remedies. Herbal medicine has always been part of my life. Running to a drug store or doctorıs office would never be my first choice unless gravely ill or unless the natural remedy had failed. I greatly respect the knowledge, techniques and technology the medical industry has developed in the past 75 years, and I do not discount the importance and effectiveness that drugs and surgery has brought to the world of healing. However, I am also aware of the over-prescribing of those drugs, the dangerous side effects of many drugs and the invasive and unnecessary nature of many of the current practices. Fortunately, due to natural remedies, I have rarely ever needed medical attention of any kind. I started massage at the age of eighteen. And although I chose at the time to pursue a full-time career as a visual artist, I continued to treat any friends, family or strangers who wanted healing with herbal medicine, massage and other forms of traditional healing. Sixteen years later while in London, I was introduced to homeopathy, which has been the turning point in my own development as a healer. A year after my first exposure to homeopathy and while beginning to study it, I was in a near fatal car accident. My shoulder was broken, my back was in great pain. I could not sit up or stand for more than a few minutes at a time. During this experience, I clearly and painfully saw the limits of "mainstream" medicine. From the moment I hit the emergency room, they had no effective therapies to help me. They gave me codeine for pain. I took it once. The codeine made me nauseous and caused me to lose consciousness twice. They had no cast to put my shoulder in, they had no therapy to help my bones and back heal faster. Fortunately for me, homeopathy had the answer. I took Arnica Montana for the bruising and trauma. I took Rhus Toxicondenron for the inflammation. I supported the homeopathy with some herbal medicines. I recovered in half the normal time without having to take painkillers or any other kind of drug. I fell in love with homeopathy and that love has never waned for a moment since. Constantly confronted by the reality of people suffering unnecessarily, being over-medicated and being charged vast sums of money when safe, effective, inexpensive natural remedies often present a better alternative, and after studying Homeopathy, Isopathy, Tautopathy and Pythotherapy and prescribing homeopathic remedies for the past several years, I decided to dedicate more of my time and energy towards my healing practice. Being from a developing country, I am also dedicating a great deal of my time and energy to doing fieldwork and outreach in developing countries and in underdeveloped communities here in Canada. Our bodies themselves are the great healers. Nature is the great medicine cabinet. The challenge is for us to honour our bodies and nature the best ways we can.
